One Cup Red Lentils
Two Tbsp Oil
Two Bay Leaves
Two pinch Asafoetida/Hing
3-4 Green Chillies
One Medium Onion
1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
Two Tomatoes
1 tsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Chilli Powder
1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
1 Tsp Salt
1/4 Tsp Garam Masala Powder
Fresh Coriander
2 Tbsp Ghee
1/2 Tsp Cumin
1 Tsp Garlic
1 Dried Red Chilli
Steps
1. Wash 1 cup (about 100g) red lentils thoroughly and soak for 1 hour.
2. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker. Add 2 bay leaves, a pinch of hing, 3-4 chopped green chilies, and fry briefly.
3. Add 1 medium chopped onion and sauté until golden.
4. Stir in 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes.
5. Add 2 chopped tomatoes, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp red chili powder, ½ tsp turmeric, and 1 tsp salt. Cook until oil separates.
6. Add soaked lentils and mix well. Pour in 4 cups water, pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
7. Whisk lightly for a creamy texture.
8. For tempering, heat 2 tbsp ghee, add cumin, chopped garlic, dried red chili, and a pinch of red chili powder. Pour over dal, garnish with coriander, and serve hot.
