It is an excellent source of protein, nutrients and supplements, and hence it is typically prepared during the festival season or fasting season. It is typically prepared with a combination of lotus seeds or makhana seeds with different types of dry fruits, nuts and raisins. It will also help in sharpening the mind and also strengthening the bones. A unique variation to the typical halwa recipe, lotus seeds known as phool makhana is prepared from roasted makhani, ghee and jaggery. A simple and quick dessert item, is best enjoyed with chopped nuts as topping.
